Sri Lankans living in the eastern part of the United States has formed an art foundation named "Sri Lankan American Art Foundation" recently to promote Sri Lankan culture and art as well as to offer educational and training opportunities to Sri Lankan artists in the United States. 

The idea of forming a Sri Lankan Art foundation came to a reality after hosting Sriyantha Mendis's popular stage drama, "Padada Asapuwa" in Boston in July 2004.  ‘Padada Asapuwa' brought all the Sri Lankans in Boston and surrounding areas together and it became apparent the need to have an art foundation not only in bringing dramas like Padada Asapuwa to U.S. but to appreciate the tremendous service the Sri Lankan artists rendered to various fields in the art. The Foundation presented awards to all the artists in the ‘Padada Asapuwa' stage drama for their contribution to the drama and art in Sri Lanka .
